Bloggers to cash in on traditional media

Bloggers now have an opportunity to sell their content to mainstream media editors via a new service from ScooptWords
Bloggers and "citizen journalists" may soon be rushing to sell their work to mainstream media, thanks to a new service from agency ScooptWords.

The agency, which claims to be "the world's first commercial citizen journalism photography agency", offers bloggers the chance to sign up online and offer their content for sale. Editors can then trawl through the site looking for interesting content, which they can buy online.

The blogger can sign up free, and only pays ScooptWords a commission if any content is sold.

While ScooptWords is aiming for standard NUJ rates for work, the company operates a "free market" policy and will negotiate fees with the Editor on behalf of the blogger. The writer than gets paid 50% of the fee for the first article, and 75% thereafter. The blogger gets paid when the agency gets paid, usually about 30 days after a deal is struck.
